Blaze Systems Corporation Celebrates 20 Years In LIMS Business

January 5, 2015. Newark, DE.

This year Blaze Systems Corporation is celebrating its 20th year in the LIMS business. "In an industry that demands rapid advances in technology and value delivery, but also requires longevity and reliability, Blaze Systems has excelled in both for our customers for over 20 years" said President Larry DeHeer. "It has been a special privilege to continually deliver the best price/performance laboratory automation product and services in the industry, while enjoying a special long term personal relationship with our customers, some of whom have been with us that entire time. They have come to expect that we are always here to answer the phone and help them succeed in their laboratories and businesses. Our customers do very special things in their labs that contribute immeasurably to the well being of people, and we are privileged to continue to be a part of that. While there have been dramatic improvements in the functioning and value of our products over those 20 years, one thing has remained the same, it is the people and the relationships that make things work. It is our continuing goal never to forget that. It is hard to imagine what the next 20 years will bring in our industry, but we look forward to them with anticipation."

Blaze Systems Corporation Announces SaaS LIMS For Water and Waste Water Treatment

October 6, 2014. Newark, DE.

Today Blaze Systems announced the introduction of its BlazeLIMS SaaS WWWT for Water and Waste Water Treatment. BlazeLIMS has long been a COTS (Commercial Off The Shelf) LIMS that is configurable for the specific requirements of water and waste water treatment testing. However, the smaller laboratories that specialize in this testing, whether by contract or as part of a municipal treatment function, largely continue to use Office as their information management technology because of the entry barriers of cost and the difficulties of LIMS acquisition and implementation. With the offering of BlazeLIMS SaaS WWWT, Blaze Systems has lowered these barriers dramatically. For a monthly service fee of $700, a pre-configured LIMS is available to streamline and automate the water and waste water laboratory, automatically scheduling, bar code labeling and tracking samples, results and QC, and producing worksheet, final, and performance reports, and much more. This approach avoids the costs and support requirements for a server, and delivers all data in a secure, shared fashion, with full audit trail and defensibility. LIMS has truly become a utility - you simply plug into the wall. Contact sales@blazesystems.com for a demo and free trial of BlazeLIMS SaaS WWWT.

Blaze Systems Corporation Announces New Releases of BlazeLIMS

August 4, 2014. Newark, DE.

While Blaze Systems issues a major release of our flagship BlazeLIMS product approximately once a year, it also has long been our practice to issue less major releases every quarter. While these releases are not widely publicized, they continue to have a significant cumulative effect on product value. Since our last release announced as news in June of 2013, there have been 4 such quarterly releases of BlazeLIMS 5.5. As a result of this practice, BlazeLIMS in always fresh and adapted to the latest versions of its operating system, database and utility environment. In addition, features are continually added that help our customers. For example, BlazeLIMS can be configured to send e-mail notifications on many events, issue scheduled reports, and can automatically log samples and load results, all in an unattended mode. These and other automated functions can fail from time to time due to bad data, infrastructure problems, etc. In the past, troubleshooting these problems has often required access to the server event log or e-mail system logs, which are usually only available to IT personnel. Recently we added logs which track and store in the BlazeLIMS database all e-mails that are sent, with content and status, and that duplicate and segregate server event logs for easy access by laboratory personnel via the BlazeLIMS client, greatly simplifying troubleshooting by lab personnel. These are but two examples of the fruits of our continuous improvement program to make BlazeLIMS more powerful, reliable and maintainable.

Blaze Systems Announces New Release of BlazeStability

March 24, 2014. Newark, DE.

Today Blaze Systems announced a new release of its BlazeStability shelf life management software now available as a SaaS (Software as a Service) offering including end-to-end management of the entire study process, including storage and analytical functions. This development makes automation of the complete organization and execution of shelf life studies available to labs of all sizes, with a sea-change reduction in the entry barrier to getting on-line.

Credible and sufficient demonstration of shelf life is an increasingly critical element of product offerings, especially in the pharmaceutical, food and beverage industries, where FDA scrutiny of procedural soundness is on the rise. First of all, justifying stated shelf life is critical from a legal and ethical standpoint. Second, there can be a substantial stake in product and package development to improve shelf life as a product advantage.

Shelf life studies involve a data and procedurally intensive process that must pass muster in all its phases, including planning, storage, analytical, and reporting, and there are substantial penalties for errors along the way which can jeopardize the validity of a long term study and lead to the loss of a significant investment.

Blaze Systems Announces New Release of BlazeLink

February 21, 2014. Newark, DE.

Blaze Systems announces the release of a Tobacco Testing Module as an add-on to its flagship BlazeLIMS Enterprise product. Recent changes in the regulatory environment for tobacco testing make automation more attractive if not essential. However, successful automation of tobacco testing requires numerous features for end-to-end coverage of this challenging laboratory process. For BlazeLIMS, this begins with a comprehensive testing request submission form that embodies FTC, ISO, MASS, Sidestream and other testing regimes in a highly configurable and easy-to-use form, allowing for the entry of complex sets of brands and testing requirements. The testing request is then automatically translated into the required set of samples, aliquots, analytes, and replicates to execute the complex coupled process of smoking and analysis.  All the logging requirements for a multi-brand, multi-regime request may be accomplished in a matter of a few minutes. Additional features of particular interest to the independent testing laboratory include estimates, blinding of brands, and more. BlazeLIMS also provides the QC support required to manage the incorporation of smoking QC and analytical QC samples, handling each according in the context of both smoking and analytical batches throughout the laboratory process. The analytical demands for tobacco testing are particularly challenging, and BlazeLIMS provides ELN automation and tracking for method execution, including preparation and usage tracking for all reagents and standards as desired to accomplish the paperless lab, as well as flexible batch run management.
BlazeStatisticalControl automates the monitoring and early detection of quality problems at all steps in the process.
BlazeLIMS integration with Crystal Reports, Excel and Word provides a flexible and comprehensive reporting capability.
Equipment utilization is particularly critical to the tobacco testing laboratory, and BlazeLIMS provides a semi-automatic scheduling utility for use in managing laboratory workflow that best combines the machine and human capabilities required to optimize utilization.

In addition , BlazeLIMS fulfills 21CFR Part 11requirements and Blaze Systems can provide templates for GxP validation documents (URS, IQ, OQ, PQ, Traceability Matrix).

March 8, 2012 . Blaze Systems Corporation has issued a white paper reflecting on the state of information management in most 21st century labs, mired in the use of stone age information management tools. Some of the possible reasons for this debilitating state of affairs are addressed.

Newark, DE.  August 20, 2011.  Blaze Systems Corporation today announced that New Season Foods Inc, a subsidiary of Knorr Foods Company, Japan (part of Ajinomoto Group, a Japanese-based global company) has selected and implemented BlazeLIMS and BlazeLink as its laboratory automation solution in support of its primary manufacturing laboratory. New Season Foods produces dried and dehydrated vegetables.
Because of the seasonal nature of their process, the NSF laboratory must operate effectively in the face of wide swings in the demand for laboratory testing. Personnel and instrument resources must be managed to maintain a high reliability and dependability of testing in the face of these swings in demand and in personnel.  BlazeLIMS is providing important process improvements to facilitate this.
First of all, barcode labels are printed for sample containers and for aliquots to insure positive sample/aliquot identification throughout the workflow, which involved the routing of samples to multiple labs and instruments.
In addition, BlazeLink, Blaze System’s instrument interfacing product, is providing tightly coupled bi-directional interfacing between BlazeLIMS and a variety of laboratory instruments requiring instrument specific protocols.  BlazeLink collects and coordinates the aliquot barcode id on aliquot containers with the instrument results for pH, weight, color, sugar, etc., automatically processing the results into the BlazeLIMS database as they become available, while also providing comprehensive calculations.  This automation is resulting in a substantial productivity and throughput benefit.
Another process improvement was provided by automated production and delivery of results reports and notifications using the flexibility and configurability of Excel as integrated with BlazeLIMS.
In addition, BlazeLIMS is performing automated scheduling and management of environmental monitoring sampling as required for the food and beverage industries, and is also managing, tracking, recording and enforcing instrument calibration and maintenance protocols.
Carolyn Mayer, Laboratory Manager at New Season Foods says “We are very pleased with the way BlazeLIMS has met or exceeded our expectations in streamlining our lab and improving our ability to scale up to very high seasonal throughputs.  We not only achieved our initial goals with BlazeLIMS but are also continually improving by employing additional features.  BlazeLIMS provided the features we needed without the higher costs and uncertainties of customization.  A key ingredient in our success has also been the superior hotline support provided by Blaze Systems.”
Larry DeHeer, President of Blaze Systems says “We take every LIMS installation personally, and we are very pleased with the ways in which New Season Foods has employed our products and services to improve their business performance.”

The BlazeLIMS equation processor was enhanced to provide configurable ELN (electronic laboratory notebook) method execution calculations where they are required to augment the standard built-in equations.  This feature allows for a large variety of calculations, checks, etc. on the method execution process, virtually eliminating paper systems for tracking and insuring proper prep and analytical method execution.  In addition a host of other improvements providing increased flexibility and function have been included, all of which demonstrate a tangible reality to Blaze Systems commitment to offer the best LIMS in the business via continuous improvement driven by customer requirements.

Newark, DE.  May 17, 2011.  Blaze Systems Corporation today announced that Scantibodies Laboratory, Inc., one of the world's largest manufacturers of medical diagnostic products including polyclonal and monoclonal antibodies, false positive blockers, diagnostic kits and specialized plasma and serum products, has selected and implemented BlazeLIMS and BlazeLink as its laboratory automation solution in support of its primary manufacturing and R & D laboratory.
BlazeLIMS provided important process improvements in several areas.  The replacement of a manual sample form submission process with direct LIMS entry of testing requests by the users, with accompanying barcode label printing for positive sample identification delivered a step change in the accuracy and specificity of requests, reducing time lags and laboratory efforts required for call back and verification, problems that are inherent in any paper based manual system.  Real time sample tracking for testing and management of analytical tasks has also contributred to a more effective laboratory. Another process improvement was provided by automated production and delivery of results reports and notifications using the flexibility and configurability of Crystal Reports as integrated with BlazeLIMS.
BlazeLink delivered a major gain in Laboratory performance by providing bi-directional interfacing between BlazeLIMS and a variety of clinical laboratory instruments, automatically delivering test requirements to the instruments based on the barcode identifiers on aliquot vials, and automatically collecting and processing results into the BlazeLIMS database as they become available.  The reduction in tedious manual data transcriptions in both directions has streamlined this process for labor reductions and improved throughput and utilization of costly instruments.
Vanik Sarkissian, Laboratory Manager at Scantibodies says “I can tell you with confidence that we are very pleased with the outcome.  BlazeLIMS has streamlined many of our processes (sample ordering, sample tracking, testing and timely reporting, etc.), provided necessary timely communications with internal departments and has given us significant paper reduction.  These are just a few benefits that we are enjoying from BlazeLIMS.”
Larry DeHeer, President of Blaze Systems says “We take every LIMS installation personally, and we are very pleased with the ways in which Scantibodies has employed our products and services to improve their business performance.  At Scantibodies, it is all about the patient; we are highly privileged to play a successful role in supporting that vision.”

March 23, 2009.  Blaze Systems announces the development of a comprehensive LIMS legacy data migration wizard and toolkit which streamlines and reduces the cost of migrating historical laboratory data from a variety of legacy data sources (Excel, Access, etc.) into BlazeLIMS.

It is almost universal that a LIMS installation is a second or third generation solution, a follow-on to a legacy LIMS, Access application(s), or Excel based system(s) for laboratory management, made necessary as laboratory needs expand and mature. So too, the need to migrate legacy data into a new LIMS installation is almost universal.  By their very nature, legacy systems often contain dirty data, that is, data that is inconsistent, having poor relational and content integrity, as well as lacking a sound underlying physical or logical data model.  The task of transforming such disarray into sound relational and content order can be daunting and expensive.

Blaze Systems has developed a legacy data migration wizard and toolkit which automates and streamlines this process.  It provides a framework for specifying the legacy metadata, selecting and separating out entity data sets, cleaning up inconsistent values and loading the data via the standard BlazeLIMS Autologger and Results Uploader.  In this way all the required relational integrity and data content is assured.  Using this new capability, Blaze Systems can provide lower cost, fixed price and effective data migration when you purchase BlazeLIMS and have legacy data you wish to preserve and reference going forward.

March 16, 2009. Blaze Systems has issued a Systems Integration White Paper to at least "scratch the surface" of the opportunity to begin making application architecture for enterprise business effectiveness a significant element in IT strategy for any enterprise, small, medium or large.

March 5, 2009. Blaze Systems has issued a Barcode Labeling White Paper that brings to light many of the key issues to be addressed when determining if LIMS software can deliver the business improvements typically available from the use of machine readable (barcode, RFID) labeling.
